From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Medicine is the art and science of healing. It encompasses a range of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness. Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication, surgery, or some other form of therapy. The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing. Though medical technology and clinical expertise are pivotal to contemporary medicine, successful face-to-face relief of actual suffering continues to require the application of ordinary human feeling and compassion, known in English as bedside manner. Q. My girlfriend is in a great deal of pain every time during her period. She is from Asia and currently in Japan now, and they don't seem to have any medicine for it. I could have sworn there is medicine in America for it, what can I do to help her? Asked by Daniel T - Sat May 17 02:53:12 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. ibuprofen, aka advil or something like that, is the best for cramps and other things like headaches. if she is in so much pain that she feels like she might die or something, like if the pain is that extreme every time she has her period, she should definitely see a gynecologist. Answered by q&a_08 - Sat May 17 03:18:36 2008 What jobs in Medicine can The U of Minnesota State Mankato offer? Q. Hey everyone, I'm planning on attending Mankato Sate University, but I dont know if they have majors in Medicine. I'm looking into becoming a Pharmacist or a Paramedic, does Mankato offer schooling in those fields? Asked by bergy121 - Tue Jul 28 00:37:25 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can do pre-pharmacy but you can't get a degree in pharmacology there. Same with paramedic. You can become a pharmacist through University of Minnesota. In order to become a paramedic, formal training and licensing is required. You must complete the early levels of emergency medical training, EMT-1, EMT-2/3. Upon completing those courses, you must complete a paramedic program, which may last up to two years. During the program, you must also complete on-site training. After completing the program, you must pass written and practical exams to receive a license. Answered by RLO - Tue Jul 28 13:38:23 2009 What is the best medicine to take to prevent malaria?
Q. I am traveling abroad. My doctor prescribed Malarone, but I have heard that it upsets people's stomachs. I know there are other types of malaria prevention medicine. The most helpful answers would be people who have taken the drug/drugs. Thank you so much! Asked by fruitstandinnewyork - Fri Jun 6 12:11:03 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments A. First I would make sure that you actually need antimalarial medication. I traveled to Guatemala and I met several Americans who were on prophylaxis but since I had done my research and checked with the U.S. State Department recommendations, I knew that I would not need it. There are many different kinds of medications, especially since now there are resistant strains in certain areas. I would call your local health department and ask to speak to a nurse. He/she will be very knowledgable about all of the options and the side effects. Also, even if you know people affected my Malarone, it does not mean that you will be affected. Hope this is helpful.
