Distress is the term used in English law, and in related Commonwealth jurisdictions, to denote the process of seizure of goods to enforce certain liabilities. Current English law identifies two broad forms of distress: - common law distress for arrears of rent or to enforce damages due for trespass by a chattel (distress damage feasant). - statutory distress for liabilities created by Act of Parliament- for example income, indirect and local taxes. In recent years it has become the practice to use distraint to describe statutory use of the remedy and distress to refer to the common law power. From Wikipedia under the

Ive decided I wanted to distress (tear, wear out, etc) them, to cover the spot, and obviously in other spots, to make them look like the jeans that are in style now, rather than go pay $80+ for them in the store. Im looking for an easy, at home, low cost way to do it myself. Asked by paprHEART - Tue Apr 11 16:18:42 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Saw this on Martha Stewart recently. They used a dremel and sanding sponges (which she says will wear the fabric without tearing). The dremel was used for fraying edges like the hem and tops of pockets. You can probably get a similar effect with the sanding sponges. Sitting down while sanding the thighs for a worn-in look or doing 'whiskers' in the hip area will help make the effect more natural. Answered by Bill B - Sat Dec 15 10:04:44 2007 What were the "intolerable acts"? and why did they create so much distress among the colonists?
Q. discuss the four intolerable acts. what were they and why did they create so much distress among the colonists? Asked by Help with history - Fri Jan 11 18:28:06 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The Intolerable Acts were pretty much a reaction to the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party was really the straw that broke the camel's back. After the French & Indian Wars, Britain was almost out of money. So they decided that they needed to tax the colonies to help pay for the defense of the colonies. The Colonies weren't against paying, they just wanted a say in how they paid, hence they protested "taxation without representation". When the British passed the Stamp Act, the colonies refused to collect the taxes. Then the British decided to collect the money in a roundabout way, giving British companies monopoly rights in the colonies. Thi led to the Boston Tea Party. As a result, the British passed the "Intolerable Acts". … [cont.] Answered by Quilter - Fri Jan 11 21:24:54 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Distress" |
